Dyson 360 Vis Nav tips and tricks: Get the most out of your robot vacuum cleaner
Everything you need to know to make your Dyson robot vacuum do exactly what you need
There are several robot vacuum options, many of which are very good at keeping floors spotless. However, none of them look as good as Dyson’s 360 Vis Nav wandering around your home with its bright blue body collecting dust in its clear container.
The Dyson 360 Vis Nav practically takes care of itself if you set it up correctly, and while you need to empty its bin from time to time – something you don’t have to do with other robot vacuums – there are a few other tips. It’s worth taking note to ensure you get the most out of it. Here are our top nine Dyson 360 Vis Nav tips and tricks to ensure you get the most out of your robot vacuum with very little input from you. After all, it is a robot.
Set a schedule
Programming a robot vacuum cleaner is probably one of the best things you can do. It means your floors will always stay clean, even if you forget to clean them during the day. It also reduces your involvement once the schedule is set, leaving you free to do anything else you want.
Open the MyDyson app > Tap the three lines in the top left corner > Select your Dyson 360 Vis Nav > Tap the clock icon at the bottom > Tap Continue > Select your days, start time, rooms and cleaning schedule you want to execute > Press ‘Add event’.
Pair your Dyson 360 Vis Nav with Alexa
You may not realize it, but the Dyson 360 Vis Nav is compatible with Alexa, so you can pair them together and then ask Alexa to tell your Dyson to start vacuuming. We have a completely separate feature for connecting Dyson and Alexa, and we also have a feature for Dyson fans, but here’s a quick rundown of what you need to do.
Open the Alexa app > Tap More > Tap Skills & games > Find the Dyson skill > Tap Enable use > Link your Alexa and Dyson accounts.
Link your Dyson 360 Vis Nav with Google Home
If Alexa isn’t your thing, but Google Assistant is, then you’re in luck as Dyson’s 360 Vis Nav is also compatible with Google Home. Just like Alexa, once set up, you can ask Google to tell Dyson to start vacuuming without having to lift a finger.
Open the MyDyson app > Tap the three lines in the top left corner > Select your Dyson 360 Vis Nav > Tap the settings gear at the top right > Tap Voice Control > Select Google Home > Tap Set up device > Follow the instructions.
See your dust levels
One of the best things about the Dyson 360 Vis Nav is that it shows you dust maps. It’s a little worrying to realize how dusty certain areas of your home can get, but it’s also interesting to see. And it is beautiful and colorful.
Open the MyDyson app > Tap the three lines in the top left corner > Select your Dyson 360 Vis Nav > Tap the map at the bottom > Swipe right or left to see different days of activity. Purple indicates little dust and white indicates a lot of dust.
Define your zones
Like many robot vacuums, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav will map your home, creating a map of the different rooms it was able to access. Once you’ve done a mapping run, you can add dividers to define different rooms and zones. It’s worth defining those zones, believe us.
Open the MyDyson app > Tap the three lines in the top left corner > Select your Dyson 360 Vis Nav > Tap Settings in the top right corner > Select Mapping & Zoning > Tap Manage Zones.
Be selective
When you set your Dyson 360 Vis Nav to clean, sometimes it pays to be a little selective. For example, under the dining room table may need frequent cleaning, while the living room that you only sit in once a week may need cleaning every few days. When you set your robot to start cleaning, it’s worth occasionally selecting only the areas you really want to clean if you’re in a hurry.
Open the MyDyson app > Tap the three lines in the top left corner > Select your Dyson 360 Vis Nav > Tap the button in the middle at the bottom > Select the rooms you want to clean > Choose between Auto, Quick, Quiet and Boost.
You may want to select Boost for under the dining room, for example, and choose Quiet for the bedrooms.
Create a restriction
Do you have some pet bowls that you’d prefer your Dyson 360 Vis Nav to stay away from? Or maybe an area near the front door where the kids always take off their shoes? It’s worth setting restrictions, as robot vacuums are great, but they’re much better when there’s nothing getting in their way.
The Dyson 360 Vis Nav doesn’t have obstacle detection like some of the iRobot models, for example, so keeping it away from crowded areas is smart if you don’t want to be alerted that you’ve gotten yourself into a tight spot. The restrictions are great too, as you can choose between 360 Vis Nav bypassing them entirely or simply turning off the brush bar, the latter of which is useful for carpets.
Open the MyDyson app > Tap the three lines in the top left corner > Select your Dyson 360 Vis Nav > Tap Settings in the top right corner > Select Mapping & Zoning > Manage restrictions > Create restriction > Choose between no brush bar, avoid and do not upload > Tap the map and draw your restriction area > Tap Next and name your restriction area > Press submit.
Use automatic mode
The Dyson 360 Vis Nav has four modes as we have briefly mentioned. However, Auto mode is the one you want because while Boost will increase suction and quiet is good for vacuuming at night, Auto adapts based on your floor. If it detects more dust, it will increase the power, and reduce it again when the floor is cleaner. It’s smart and it’s also better for battery life, as Boost mode on permanently will drain the battery much faster.
Open the MyDyson app > Tap the three lines in the top left corner > Select your Dyson 360 Vis Nav > Tap the center button at the bottom > Tap the cleaning program until you reach Auto.
Make sure it’s running the latest software
Dyson regularly updates the software on its devices and is constantly adding new features, so make sure you’ve set the Dyson 360 Vis Nav to update automatically so you always get those features right away.
Open the MyDyson app > Tap the three lines in the top left corner > Select your Dyson 360 Vis Nav > Tap Settings in the top right corner > Tap ‘Your robot settings’ > Turn on Automatic software update.
