Meross Gives US Users a New Reason for Smart Thermostats to Matter
Meross has taken the covers off a Matter-certified smart thermostat, taking on companies like Nest, which pretty much have a monopoly on the category right now.
The new Meross Matter smart thermostat, which costs $99.99 in the United States, offers cross-platform compatibility and a sleek, modern design.
The smart thermostat is designed to integrate with 95% of heating and cooling systems in North America, as long as they have a C-Wire connection.
Meross already has several smart thermostats available, which look exactly the same as this new MTS300MA model, but this is the Chinese brand’s first foray into US heating and cooling systems.
It features a white glass touchscreen panel, energy tracking, and smart scheduling, all accessible through the Meross app or through Matter-compatible smart home systems like Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings.
It’s Matter over Wi-Fi, but can operate locally without needing to rely on the cloud, allowing users to control it directly from the smart home ecosystem of their choice.
While smart thermostats are a popular option for reducing energy use and simplifying HVAC control, the Meross Matter Smart Thermostat is only the third Matter-certified option available for US HVAC systems.
The alternatives are Google’s Nest Thermostat or the new fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat.
However, at that sub-$100 price point, the Meross model stands out as the most affordable option and the only one that works natively with Matter-compatible room sensors.
The Meross sensors, priced at $30 each, require a $25 Meross smart home hub and expand functionality with accurate temperature and humidity tracking.
Matter certification guarantees seamless integration with multiple platforms, but it does come with a few caveats… it wouldn’t be Matter if it didn’t, right?
The only officially supported controls are temperature adjustments and mode changes.
However, the recent Matter 1.4 update should see additional features, such as scheduling and preset modes like home, away, and vacation, added to the mix.
For early adopters, the Meross Matter Smart Thermostat is available at a discounted introductory price of $69.99 in the Meross Store.
