Here are three Apple Watch features that solve common iPhone problems.
Your iPhone is the most important device in many users’ lives, but pairing it with your Apple Watch makes it even more convenient. Here are three Apple Watch features that solve common iPhone problems.
#1: Ping your iPhone
If you’re someone who frequently loses your iPhone and always misplaces it, there’s one feature of the Apple Watch that you’ll especially love.
When you tap the side button on your Apple Watch to open Control Center, you’ll see a button with an icon representing an iPhone with waves coming out of the side.
Pressing this button will ping your iPhone and make a sound, making it easier to find your iPhone.
The latest Apple Watch hardware makes this feature even better. Apple explains:
On Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2, you can also see general heading and distance to your iPhone.
The Watch screen shows your bearing and distance to your iPhone, and precision search guides you there. When you get close to your iPhone, your Watch will flash green and your iPhone will make two pings.
#2: Capture photos remotely
The iPhone camera is one of its most important features. But sometimes you need to take photos from a distance.
Whether you want to take a nice group photo or you’re alone and need some help, Apple Watch can help.
watchOS includes a dedicated Camera Remote app. It allows you to remotely control your iPhone’s camera directly from your wrist.
Camera Remote gives you a live view of what you’re watching on your iPhone on your Watch screen. You can also tap to take photos and adjust settings from your wrist.
#3: Notification buffer and overview
Perhaps the biggest problem many of us have with our iPhones is that we’re too tied to them. Smartphone addiction is a serious problem, made worse by constant notifications demanding attention.
Surprisingly, the Apple Watch is very effective at reducing iPhone usage.
Without the Watch, you’re more likely to reach for your iPhone every time it clicks, and you’re more likely to be drawn into unproductive and useless apps and activities without realizing it.
Apple Watch provides a buffer that helps you pick up your iPhone frequently.
You can get notifications on your wrist instead, and if that’s not important to you, it’s easy to go about your day with minimal device interruptions. If you want, you can also customize notifications so that only important notifications arrive on your Watch or iPhone.
I especially appreciate being able to get a summary of Apple Intelligence notifications on my Apple Watch. These can give you more information about whether a particular message or email actually needs your attention. This has reduced the number of times I pick up my iPhone.
