Partnership with Instacart announced for Bespoke smart refrigerator range

Samsung is turning its smart refrigerators into complete shopping assistants, and the Korean brand’s Bespoke refrigerators let you replenish groceries right from the refrigerator screen, thanks to a new partnership with Instacart.

This isn’t the first time Instacart has appeared on Samsung refrigerators, but this time it’s deeply integrated with the technology inside.

Using AI Vision Inside, Samsung’s food recognition system, the refrigerator can identify what’s running low, suggest replacements, and let you place orders through Instacart without even picking up your phone.

The technology relies on cameras inside and above the refrigerator door that track what goes in and out. It’s smart enough to recognize up to 37 foods and syncs with the Samsung Food app to update your inventory.

You can also register items manually if the AI misses something.

This isn’t a one-way feature either; When you prepare a recipe from the Samsung Food app, the system can automatically adjust your inventory and even add used ingredients to your shopping list.

It’s basically refrigerator multitasking, but how accurate you’ll be when your kids raid the snacks is another story.

Samsung tells us that Instacart integration will roll out to its latest Bespoke models, including the 32-inch AI Family Hub+ and the new 9-inch AI Home display.

However, older refrigerators with AI Vision Inside are not left out; They will get the feature via a free firmware update that will roll out later this year.

While the technology sounds impressive, the cameras can’t see into refrigerator door compartments or freezers, and adding items manually sounds like a chore.

Then there’s the question of how often you’ll trust the system to get your shopping list right. Still, the convenience of same-day delivery from Instacart, right from your refrigerator, might be useful enough to make this more than just another AI trick.

By deeply integrating a service like Instacart with its hardware and software, Samsung is betting on a future where its refrigerator is not only smart, but proactive.

Whether that future will be perfect or just slightly frustrating remains to be seen.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
