CES 2025: My favorite smart security camera brand is expanding its range

Reolink, the brand I ditched all my Nest cameras for, used CES 2025 to introduce the WiFi Duo 3 camera and also a new Altas series.

The new Duo 3 WiFi looks identical to the PoE version already available and offers 16MP UHD resolution and a 180° panoramic view, thanks to its dual 4K sensors and an advanced image stitching algorithm.

This design eliminates blind spots and captures intricate details, making it ideal for monitoring large areas such as driveways, parking lots, and backyards.

Equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi 6, the Duo 3 WiFi supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies for smooth live streaming and faster data transfer.

Its Motion Track feature condenses motion events into a single 15-second image for quick review.

Reolink cameras, in case you don’t know, come with local storage options via a microSD card and that is the case with the new arrival.

This not only eliminates the need to pay monthly fees, but also allows you to save recordings without relying on cloud storage.

Reolink actually offers cloud plans for those who want them, but most importantly, it doesn’t lock essential features behind a paywall.

Available now in North America and Europe, the Duo 3 WiFi is priced at $179.99 and can be purchased through the Reolink website or through Amazon.

I actually set up the Duo 3 WiFi and am testing it ahead of a review coming out soon, so stay tuned.

Reolink’s other big announcement at CES was the new Altas Series, which joins the Reolink Altas PT Ultra that launched last year.

These battery-powered cameras offer 24/7 continuous recording on a single charge for a week. Battery life extends to around 2 years if you opt for motion activated recording.

Key to this advancement is the series’ massive 20,000 mAh battery packs, which can also be expanded indefinitely when combined with Reolink’s solar panels.

The new line includes Altas Go PT, a 4G-connected camera with a 360° blind-spot view; the 2K Altas, a bullet-type Wi-Fi camera; and an updated Altas PT Ultra, which now features a more energy-efficient chipset.

Enhanced by Reolink’s ColorX technology, Alta cameras promise vibrant, full-color images both day and night, using a large F1.0 aperture and 1/1.8” sensor that captures four times more light than traditional infrared cameras. .

The cameras also feature 10-second pre-recording capabilities, ensuring crucial moments are never missed, and two-way audio for real-time communication.

As always, videos can be stored locally on SD cards (up to 512GB) or transferred to Reolink’s Home Hub solutions for centralized storage, even if the Internet goes out.

They should arrive in the coming months and prices are yet to be confirmed.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
