Satellite video calls that will come to Europe and us from this year
The satellite video call will come to Europe in the latter half of this year following the success of Vodafone’s Tech demonstration with a partnership with AST Spacemobile. The development in the United States through AT & T will continue after a while.
Similar to existing satellite texts and voice calls, the service operates in a remote location where the mobile phone coverage cannot be used …
Apple led the road with satellite text
Although satellite communication through dedicated hardware devices can be used for decades, in recent years, this function has been extended to a normal smartphone in recent years.
Apple has led an emergency SOS via a satellite service launched in 2022 so that it can access 911 services in isolated areas without covering mobile phones. Last year, this service was extended to be able to send messages to family and friends.
Apple initially partned for these features with Globalstar, but this week we learned to add Starlink Satellite Connection in collaboration with Spacex and T-Mobile.
Voice and data proven in 2023
AST Spacemobile in 2023 demonstrated that smartphones make voice calls via satellite communication and access mobile data.
The company engineer has demonstrated the space -based 5G connection by calling a BLUEWALKER 3 test satellite (…) of AT & T Spectrum and AST SPACEMOBILE (…) to Spain’s Borderfon engineer from Maui, USA, USA.
In another test, the company broke the previous Space -based cellular broadband data session record by achieving the download rate of about 14 Mbps.
Satellite video call from this year
The same company has partnered with Vodafone to demonstrate video calls through satellites among things that look like an iPhone and Android phone.
Vodafone uses a normal 4G/5G smartphone and satellite that allows multiple users in areas without mobile coverage to create and receive video calls, access the Internet, and use online messaging services. The world’s first space video call was created behind success.
Vodafone’s engineer ROWAN CHESMER conducted a historic cosmic video call to Margherita from a remote location in the Midwells, which had no mobile broadband so far.
You can see the following calls.
The company states that the service will start in Europe late this year and will complete compensation by the end of 2026.
Barge AT & T also reports that it has been testing services in the United States, which can be released for a while after Vodafone services are expanded in Europe.
Neither company has announced the price setting.
