Apple explains how to stop it every time MacBook opens.
Do you want to prevent MacBook from running every time you open the lid or connect to a power supply? Apple has released an official support document that details how to disable functions.
Without switching the settings properly, it is a workaround for power users. However, given that power users are most likely to turn off automatic startups, it’s probably no problem.
In support documents, Apple provides the necessary steps to change default actions.
- Make sure that the Mac laptop with Apple silicon uses MacOS Sequoia or later.
- Open the terminal app in the utility folder of the application folder.
- Enter any of these commands in the terminal and then press Return.
- To prevent startups when opening the lid or connecting to power:
sudo nvram BootPreference=%00
- To prevent startup only when opening the lid:
sudo nvram BootPreference=%01
- To prevent startup only when connecting to power:
sudo nvram BootPreference=%02
- To prevent startups when opening the lid or connecting to power:
- When the prompt is displayed, enter the administrator password (the terminal does not display the password when entered), press Return.
In addition, automatic startup when opening the lid can be enabled again with this command on the terminal.
sudo nvram -d BootPreference
These steps are useful for those who want to change default behavior for various reasons.
Note that these steps do not hinder the MacBook when pressing a key or trackpad. For example, if you need a way to clean the keyboard without a key input, see CleanUpbuddy for Mac.
On the other hand, if you just want to prevent the Mac from playing at startup, there is the toogle in the settings and play the sound with a startup.
