Apple TV+ has redesigned its film strategy and shifted away from theatrical releases and huge budgets. However, there is at least one film, “The Company is still fully undertaken.” This summer’s Brad Pitt-Starring F1. This is the adrenaline pump teaser that aired during the Super Bowl.

The F1 film is Apple’s biggest theatrical swing to date

Despite Apple TV+’s success in TV show slate, 2024 hasn’t been a great year for Apple’s film division.

Argylle and Fly Me To Moon both received wide theatre pushes, but were a huge disappointment at the box office.

This led Apple to cancel the planned theatrical launch for the wolves and instead pivot into their Apple TV+ debut, inserting a creative team in the process. But on all appearances, the film was a hit with streaming.

In a closed room, Apple reportedly decided to film the page from Netflix’s Playbook and double down on the straight two-streaming movie. This means creating only one or two big budget theatre projects a year.

This year, F1 is that project. It was Apple’s first real attempt at a summer blockbuster.

Starring Brad Pitt and starring the director of Top Gun: Maverick fame Joseph Kosinski, the film will get a huge theatrical release when it arrives on June 27th.

So it’s fitting that Apple offered sneak peaks in the Super Bowl. This is the new teaser trailer.

Following this summer’s theatrical debut, Apple is expected to bring F1 to Apple TV+ later this year.
