eBay sellers are asking for $2k-50,000 on an iPhone with Tiktok installed

Used iPhones with Tiktok installed are available for sale on eBay for thousands of dollars. In one list, ask for an unlocked iPhone 12 Pro Max for $50,000 to “Use the Tiktok app”.

Trump has issued executive orders claiming to protect businesses from liability for breaking the law, but Apple, Google and others have continued to comply by keeping Tiktok out of their US app stores…

On Friday, the US Supreme Court upheld a law that imposed a ban on the US Tiktok. In other words, the ban came into effect on January 19th. Tiktok went offline in the US on Sunday and was removed from the app store. Apple has issued a statement that it is obligated to comply with the law.

Later Sunday, Trump made a social media post saying he would suspend the ban as soon as he takes office the next day, and that he would not be responsible for ignoring the law in the meantime. Access to the app was restored by ByteDance, as the US host Oracle determined that Trump’s promise to liability could be trusted.

Trump then issued a promised executive order that states that the law will not be enforced for 75 days, claiming that businesses that violated the law are not liable. However, the lawyers quickly pointed out that the order did not appear to be compliant with the law, leaving companies responsible for a total fine of $850 billion. Other lawyers then pointed out the additional risk that Trump could change his mind if he decides he doesn’t like a particular company.

Wired Some eBayers have discovered that they are trying to take advantage of the situation right away by using Tiktok to provide used Android phones and iPhones beyond the market value of their devices.

You can find mobile phones selling eBay’s Buy It Now format (and) listed Tiktoks in the $2,000-$5,000 range.

Luckily, the site reports that it appears to be widespread sanity. Crazy-priced phones have failed to sell, while other phones show a completed sale thanks to the “best offer” feature, which allows the buyer to simply provide the amount they are willing to pay.
