Gurman: Future Apple Watch models may include cameras as part of the AI push
To deploy the Apple Watch as an AI wearable, Apple is working on multiple versions of future Apple Watch models, including cameras. This helps the device “see the outside world,” according to Mark Garman of Bloomberg.
This AI push is closely linked to Apple’s existing visual intelligence technology, and the company plans to bring it to AirPods as well. Currently, Visual Intelligence relies heavily on ChatGpt and Google. Garman said the company wants to bring the work inside.
Apple’s ultimate visual intelligence plan goes far beyond the iPhone. The company wants to place features at the heart of future devices, including camera-equipped AirPods I’ve written about for several months. Along the way, Apple wants to shift visual intelligence to its own AI model, rather than Openai or Google.
Regarding Apple Watch models with cameras, Gurman reports that Apple is working on both standard surveillance and ultra Apple Watch models. With a standard Apple Watch, the camera is embedded in the display, just like the iPhone. It is unclear whether this will be utilized in display technology or whether it will require camera clipping.
With Ultra, the company plans to embed it next to the digital crown and side buttons next to the watch. Apple may be doing this. Because they have more space. Gurman says Ultra users are easy to point to their wrist to scan.
According to Garman, the Apple Watch didn’t watch until at least 2027. This all depends on Apple’s AI team keeping things organized. The team recently received an executive shakeup.
