This is great in terms of specs and design. It’s lightweight, premium (literally feels like 16 maximum iPhones with frostback), can charge multiple devices in multiple ways, and I like the design choices that integrate the spec list into the device. It makes you feel transparent.

Solid battery vs. regular lithium ion

Remember when I went from a regular hard drive to an external storage solid state drive to disassemble this as much as possible? The ideas are very similar. Solid-state SSDs were much more reliable because they had fewer moving parts, meaning they had fewer points of failure compared to traditional spinning disk hard drives. The storage and battery technologies are different, but the ideas here are the same.

Traditional lithium-ion batteries use liquid electrolytes. This can be flammable and degrade over time, leading to poor performance and safety. The phone, which has a growing battery, expands, starts leaking inside, starts to bulge, and eventually explodes. Solid-state batteries replace most or all of their liquid with solid or gel-like electrolytes. This change increases the battery’s thermal stability, makes it more likely to leak or burn, and increases the lifespan.

A practical experience

I recently brought my Kuxiu S2 on a trip to Florida. I used it as my primary charger for 6 days and it passed with flying colours. My first “amazing” moment was when I fully charged my iPhone 16 Pro Max from 12% to 100% and the battery was still there. I’m not going to say it’s completely cool, but given the conditions it existed, it didn’t get hot, and when it’s pushing a 15W charge it warms a bit a bit, but it quickly returns to normal temperature.

Another quality of life note I like is the simple iOS integration and very strong magnets that it has when it first connected.
