Today, Apple has updated its vintage product list with two new iPhone models, moving the other two iPad models to an outdated product list. This means that certain Apple devices may not be easily repaired.

Apple maintains a list of vintage and deprecated products on its website. This list exists for repair services purposes and generally serves as guidance on part availability. (via Macle Tumor))

Devices are classified as devices that have not been sold for more than five years but have been sold for less than seven years. From this point onwards, Apple no longer guarantees the availability of some of the repairs. Passing the 7 year mark will become “outdated.” This means that the hardware service for the above products will be discontinued whether it is an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Today, two beloved iPhone models joined our vintage product list: iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8. This applies to all iPhone 7 Plus models, as well as iPhone 8 models with 64GB and 256GB. The 128GB iPhone 8 model is not yet vintage, and there are no iPhone 8 Plus models in colors other than the product (red).

Apple’s vintage iPhone list currently consists of:

  • iPhone4 (8GB)
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 6S (16GB/64GB/128GB)
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone8 (64GB/256GB)
  • iPhone 8 (product) Red
  • iPhone 8 Plus (product) Red
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XS Max

Apple has also moved the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 2 from “Vintage” status to “Old” status. This means that repairs using first-party parts for these two devices are no longer available.
