iPad gets Apple Self-Service Repair Support for relatively recent models
Apple’s self-service repair program was first launched for the iPhone in 2021 after the company made a U-turn to the right of the repair. It will be expanded to MacBooks in 2023, and will be available for use on iPads starting tomorrow.
Support is limited to relatively limited models. Apple recently launched its real parts distributor program. This allows the repair business to order components directly from the company…
Initially, Apple restricted access to repair manuals and spare parts to Apple authorized service providers and independent repair providers. I was lucky enough to have customers who wanted to perform their own repairs and independent repair shops that were too small to qualify.
After years of opposition to the right to repair the law, Apple has changed its mind in the face of increasing state laws and pressures by the FTC and begins access to manuals, parts and tools.
As of tomorrow, the program is expanding to many iPad models.
Starting tomorrow, we will support the iPad Air (M2 or later), iPad Pro (M4), iPad Mini (A17 Pro) and iPad (A16), and the release will feature components such as a display, battery, camera, and external charging ports. In today’s announcement, customers and independent repair providers will take part in the expansion of other Apple repair services that allow customers and independent repair providers to complete comprehensive repairs, including new details about the authentic parts distributor program.
The company says this latest expansion will bring the total number of supported Apple products to 65, with the program’s country county to 33.
Apple said Canada will be participating in the program over the summer.
The company also highlighted the recently launched authentic parts distributor program.
This will increase access to businesses that do not have a direct service relationship with Apple, meet needs in the repair market and provide more options to customers.
Through a genuine parts distributor, independent mobile repair professionals can order authentic Apple service parts and components through third-party distributors, including MobilesEntrix in the US, MobilesEntrix and MobileParts.shop in Europe. The Genuine Parts Distributor offers a wide range of Apple parts for iPhone repairs, including displays, batteries, and charging ports. Repair providers interested in learning can access the program page.
Apple said it was excited to expand its self-service repairs.
“At Apple, our goal is to create the world’s largest product that lasts as long as possible,” said Brian Naumann, vice president of AppleCare. “Today’s announcement allows us to expand our repair services to more customers and further expand the lifespan of our products without compromising safety, security and privacy.”
