Wyze has launched a new battery-powered video doorbell designed to make smart home security a little simpler and a lot less reliant on wires.

The new model, which is available now for $65.98, can run for up to six months on a single charge and installs in minutes using the included mounting hardware. This is an attractive upgrade for homeowners or renters who don’t want to deal with drilling or new wiring.

Despite its low price, the Wyze Battery Doorbell includes many high-end touches. They are 150° x The 150° field of view and 1536 x 1536 HD+ resolution create a clear, front-facing image of your door, from the visitor’s head to the package at their feet. That 1:1 aspect ratio also means fewer blind spots, one of the main pain points Wyze says it wanted to address.

The doorbell supports two-way and auto-response messages like “Leave package at door,” plus motion notifications that alert you about deliveries or visitors. Those who subscribe to Wyze’s Cam Plus service also get AI-powered person and package detection.

Users can also connect the device for continuous power and 24-hour local recording via a microSD card up to 256GB for added flexibility. It is compatible with IFTTT, Google Assistant and Alexa, ensuring easy integration with most smart home setups. The doorbell is also IP65 weather resistant and alerts can be sent via an existing mechanical doorbell or the optional Wyze Wi-Fi doorbell indoors.

According to Wyze co-founder Dave Crosby, the product was created to address two common user annoyances, which are complex wiring and porch blind spots, all while simplifying installation and being reasonably priced.

For less than $70, the Wyze Battery Video Doorbell aims to make home security less of a chore rather than reinvent it, which may be exactly what most people want.
