Shop E Store Wyze is taking an unconventional approach to outdoor monitoring with its new Window Cam, a security camera designed to stay safely indoors while watching what’s happening outside.
Instead of mounting hardware to the outside of your home, Wyze’s “Rear Window” style setup allows the camera to look out from behind a glass panel, without the need for weather protection, battery changes, or exterior power outlets.
While Wyze has offered window mounts for its other cameras before, the Window Cam is designed specifically for this use case. There are no infrared LEDs or standard night vision lighting, which typically bounce off the glass and create glare. Instead, the camera relies on a wide f/1.0 aperture to offer enhanced color night vision, capturing usable images even in minimal ambient light.
It records in 1080p with a horizontal field of view of 101 degrees and a narrower vertical field of view of 53.9 degrees. The included mount uses a large black bezel to cut reflections from interior lights and the camera attaches using a hook and loop closure. The mount adheres to the window using an adhesive pad, not reusable, but Wyze includes a replacement if you need to reposition it later.
Power arrives via a 10-foot microUSB cable, and 24/7 local recording is available if you add your own microSD card of up to 512GB. A built-in microphone and speaker offer basic two-way audio, although talking through a closed window naturally won’t match the clarity of an outside camera.
Window Cam supports motion detection alerts from Wyze, and Cam Unlimited Pro plan subscribers can get AI-generated descriptions of what the camera sees. Cloud storage options range from $2.99 to $19.99 per month, although some users may still be cautious: Wyze has been working to rebuild trust after a recent breach that briefly exposed feeds from thousands of customer cameras, as well as previous undisclosed vulnerabilities in discontinued models.)
