Apple presented Homekit’s new architecture in 2022, with the aim of improving the experience of using homekit devices.

But while the update of this new architecture has been optional so far, that is about to change, since IOS 18.4 suggests that users will soon be forced to update to the new platform.

Homekit’s new architecture was first introduced with iOS 16.2, but retired shortly after its launch due to compatibility problems. Apple then reintrated it through iOS 16.4 in February 2023, and since then it has continued to be an optional update for Apple’s starting systems.

According to 9to5Mac, the latest beta version of iOS 18.4 (Beta 3) suggests that the start application will no longer work with the old Homekit architecture.

Users who have not yet updated are seeing a message that affirms that he admits “will end soon” and users must “update to avoid interruptions.”

It is not clear if this change will enter into force with the final launch of iOS 18.4 or a future update, but it is likely that iOS 19 will only be compatible with the new homekit architecture.

IOS 18.4 is currently in beta tests and is expected to be published next month.

If you are not sure whether you have updated or not, then you can consult the start application. You probably have it if you have activated automatic updates, on your Apple devices.
