M4 MacBook Air Reviews: Macs that most people should buy (but not blue)
With the first M4 MacBook Air Review being released, the consensus view may not be an exciting update, but it is a lot of technology for money and a Mac that most people should buy.
Another thing reviewers agree is that the new blue colour is a whole new level of subtlety.
Six colors
Jason Snell welcomes new prices and says that if you’re coming from an Intel Mac, this is the machine you’ll buy.
So perhaps the most important change for the M4 MacBook Air is the base configuration starting at $999. When Apple introduced the new Flatwit Corners Air Design, which won in 2022, it was necessary to continue selling older models to reduce under $1,000. Three years later, Apple will finally be able to sell the latest air, using generous 16GB of unified memory at its important price.
SO: There’s nothing better than moving back to generations or stepping into older models at a lower price. Apple has removed the MacBook Air strategy. The latest and largest models are models that most people who buy a Mac should buy, especially if they come from Intel models.

David Phelan agrees, saying the price of the 15-inch model is particularly noteworthy.
There’s a reason why the MacBook Air is so popular (Apple even calls it the most popular laptop in the world). This machine is made to be ridiculously slim, sharply designed and attractively lightweight when it lasts a battery life. These attributes still apply in modern models, but now they have a much more powerful processor, making sure they run faster than before. The low price for a particularly luxurious sized 15-inch model is cake icing.

Brenda Stolyar says she has been a MacBook Air fan for a long time and things may remain on her wish list, but it’s hard not to love this.
It’s hard not to love the new MacBook Air. It packs everything we loved about the previous version, largely All criticism. The lack of ports continues to be my biggest complaint, but I’m off track (…) It’s still a great laptop for basic tasks. Certainly, I feel that the upgrades continue to be repetitive, but it’s great to see the MacBook Air price again at a price under $1,000 without skipping features.
CNET
Joshua Goldman says that while it has hardly changed from the M3 model, it’s just proof of how great these M-Series machines are.
What keeps me surprised about the Macbook Airs M series is that they crank out high levels of performance and long battery life, but the body is completely fanless. What’s more, it’s incredible that performance improves year by year. So, although it’s not much different from the M4 Air’s final generation M3 MacBook Air, its thin, light and quiet body gives you plenty of computing power and over 15 hours of battery life. And now it’s in a light metallic blue.
Tom’s Hardware
Andrew Friedman says the pricing for the upgrade is “still absurd,” but the base machine is of great value.
The M4 MacBook Air is still thin, still strong and excellent. Adds a low price and default 16GB of RAM. This laptop is one of the best values Apple has offered for a long time.
Gizmod
Kyle Barr says the machine is a solid purchase, but he wasn’t the only reviewer who said he had to look hard at the new blue colour to see the signs of blue.
The 2025 version of the MacBook Air still starts at the most attractive price range with the best performance. Don’t expect anything different from previous versions. (…) Starting a $1,000 price range is a solid grab for the average user (though the cold silver colour is not “sky blue.”
