Siri Shortcuts Now Work with Samsung SmartThings
Samsung’s latest update to its SmartThings platform brings a pleasant surprise for Apple users: full support for Siri Shortcuts. No more juggling apps or fiddling with hubs—the integration means you can now tell Siri to run your SmartThings routines right from your iPhone, iPad, or even your HomePod.
Previously, Apple users needed to rely on the SmartThings app or compatible hubs to manage devices and routines. Now, with Siri Shortcuts, SmartThings routines can be activated with a simple “Hey Siri, good morning” and other common voice commands, according to The Verge. This means your home can wake up with you, with the lights on, the coffee brewing and the blinds going up. Now everything is hands-free and hassle-free.
Siri Shortcuts, an automation feature built into iOS, allows users to execute tasks, automations, and sequences, all with a single command. You can set them up yourself in the Shortcuts app or just use the ones Samsung adds directly within SmartThings. It’s a big step for anyone living in the world of Apple and Samsung, as everything speaks to each other a little better.
Samsung doesn’t stop there. The company is also rolling out improvements to its SmartThings app on all Apple devices. On Apple Watch, you can now scroll through all your devices, send commands, and activate routines without having to grab your phone. Plus, if you have iOS 16 or later on your iPhone, Live Activity lets you control up to five of your recently used devices right from the lock screen.
This update is part of a growing trend in which companies are pushing cross-platform compatibility with smart homes, aligning with efforts like Matter to make connected devices work seamlessly across ecosystems. And for Apple users who already own SmartThings devices, Siri’s new powers make daily automation faster and easier to use.
