Apple shows how iPhone’s Action Mode can help capture videos of people with Parkinson’s disease
Apple is working hard to promote accessibility, including the AirPods Pro’s hearing aid features. But now the company has shown an example of how the iPhone’s Action Mode can help people with Parkinson’s disease in their daily lives.
iPhone’s Action Mode is an accessibility feature for people with Parkinson’s disease
Apple’s latest campaign, shot in Brazil, not only promotes Action Mode, but also shows how important the feature is for people who suffer from hand tremors caused by Parkinson’s disease.
For those who aren’t familiar, Action Mode is a camera option available on iPhone 14 and later that significantly compensates for shake and vibration when shooting video, making it extremely stable. For some, Action Mode is just one of the iPhone’s many camera features, but for others it’s an important accessibility feature.
A new video promoted by Apple tells the stories of people living with Parkinson’s disease and how they are able to use their iPhones to shoot videos despite their shaking hands. One of them concerns Rodrigo Mendez, who has continued his hobby of mountaineering and hiking since 2009, despite suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
“Climbing a mountain is great, but taking pictures of mountains is also important, right?” iPhone’s Action mode makes a big difference. Because, imagine trying to take a picture with your hands shaking like this. (…) In the end, being able to take the images yourself makes a big difference,” Mendes says in the video.
Apple also shared stories of other people living with Parkinson’s disease in a new campaign. In all of their videos, the company shows the difference in shooting with and without action mode.
Mendez’s video was posted to Apple’s official Instagram account and is recorded in Portuguese, but with English subtitles. You can watch it below.
Learn more about Apple and accessibility
Earlier this week, Sarah Hellinger, Apple’s global head of accessibility, said in an interview that the company wants to make its technology accessible to everyone. Recently, Apple released an update that turns AirPods Pro 2 into hearing aids. This feature was promoted in this year’s Apple holiday ad.
The company also frequently shares stories of people whose lives were saved with the help of Apple devices and technology, such as Emergency SOS and arrhythmia notifications from Apple Watch.
