Bloomberg: Apple ‘investigating’ bringing cellular capabilities to Mac for the first time
Early morning today, bloomberg It detailed Apple’s multi-year plan to ditch Qualcomm and debut its own modem technology on the iPhone and iPad.

Apple is expected to debut the first version of its cellular modem in the iPhone SE 4, iPhone 17 Air, and base iPad models next year. A higher-end version of the chip with faster 5G connectivity is expected to debut in the iPhone 18 Pro next year.
As part of this transition, Apple is also considering bringing cellular capabilities to Macs as early as 2026.
Apple is developing its own modem and exploring the idea of bringing cellular connectivity to Macs for the first time. This means users don’t need Wi-Fi to get online. Until now, that feature was reserved for iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad. But it’s unlikely that Macs will get cellular connectivity before 2026, when Apple plans a second-generation modem that will include support for faster speeds.
A version of the Vision Pro with cellular capabilities is also being considered.
The company is also discussing bringing cellular support to its headsets, including future models of the Vision Pro. One day, this technology may also be used in lightweight augmented reality glasses, but such devices are many years away.
