Whether used for adventure and wildlife photography or as a reliable all-rounder for anybody who doesn’t feel the need or have the cash to assemble a full-frame system, Canon’s EOS R7 is a strong mirrorless camera that confidently tackles a multitude of subjects and situations. The 32 Megapixel sensor produces clear photos when used with a competent lens and other highlights include a great focusing system, quick burst shooting with a few restrictions, respectable built-in stabilization, and rapid burst shooting overall.
Owners of the EOS R7 may adopt any of the older Canon or third-party EF or EF-S DSLR lenses, and in general, they can perform rather well by utilizing the built-in stabilization and extensive AF coverage with subject recognition. There are a few limitations, too, including the inability of some EF lenses—typically older models—to operate at the fastest burst rates, combine optical IS and IBIS, or offer complete AF coverage.
The R7 uses a rather underwhelming 2.36 million dot OLED display for its electronic viewfinder. Although the quality of your final photographs won’t be affected, it’s just less pleasant to use and look through than a more detailed panel.
The R7 includes two SD card slots that enable UHS-II rates for storage. You may configure them to backup for stills or video, overflow for stills, or record stills to one and video to the other. Even if the presence of dual slots is welcome, many people will be upset that Canon didn’t replace one of them with a faster CF Express slot like the ones found on the Fujifilm X-H2 and S as well as the Canon R5. The R7 experiences shorter flush times and smaller buffers by sticking with SD.
Using a USB Power Delivery source, you may recharge the R7’s battery. Both my MacBook and Galaxy S chargers functioned without any issues.
