Wah Wah and Vibrato Effect:

It comes with a main sound hole in front and two smaller holes at the back. To get a Vibrato effect, you press your thumb into the main sound hole, which feels like you want to push the sound back. You can get “wah-wah” effect by covering and uncovering the two back sound holes with your fingers.

Glissando:

It is playing three or more adjacent notes simultaneously on a kalimba. When you play 3 adjacent keys, you play a triad – a three-note chord. When you play four adjacent keys, you play a 7th chord. Five keys in a row make a 9th chord.

Note Stickers:

Although the keys are engraved with notes and numbers, you can still cut the red and green note stickers to put on some keys you would like. It’s much more visual that helps to make your learning process easier.

How to tune a kalimba?

1. Purchase a tuner or download a tuning app on your mobile phone:

2. Pluck the center key on your kalimba and refer to the tuner:

If the note display on the tuner is too flat, gently hit the key with the hammer from the bottom until the tuner reads kalimba’s defaulted note and the pointer directing to the center position. If the note is sharper, gently hit the key with hammer from the top until the tuner reads the perfect note.

3. Proceed to tune all the other keys one by one in a similar way.

Rayzm trapezoid shaped kalimba in compact size is constructed from solid mahogany (not layered plywood mahogany) for a soothing and warm tone. The beautifully-carved PATENTED pattern on the top side adds nice visuals to your performance.
17 ore-steel keys embossed with notes and numbers have great strength and resonance. They are curved at the tip of keys for easier playing. If needed, you can cut the green/red stickers to label them on the keys to make the notes more visual for easier note identification when playing.
It features a smoothed cutaway hand rests on both side of the box to keep your hands in a more relaxed position for comfort playing. Three sound holes including two smaller ones at the back help to create a superb rich resonant sound (like Wah Wah and Vibrato effect).
Although Rayzm kalimba comes with tuned keys (In C tone), to maximize performance, we suggest you tune it every time before your practice. Download “gstrings” or “instuner” app on your cellphone, gently tap the key downward with hammer if the note is sharp, tap upward if the note is flat.
