Last year’s iPhone was the best-selling smartphone in the world.
The world’s three best-selling smartphones last quarter were all last year’s iPhone, with two older Samsung models taking fourth and fifth place, according to the latest market intelligence report.
The world’s best-selling smartphone in Q4 2024 was the base model iPhone 15, capturing 3% of the total global smartphone market.
According to Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Pro models came in second and third place.

The company doesn’t release shipment numbers (information that is paywalled for customers), but says Pro Max has performed particularly well.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max narrowed the gap over the iPhone 15 compared to a year ago as consumers opted for better cameras and displays due to easier financing and trade-ins.
Overall, Apple fell slightly due to improved performance in Samsung phones.
Last year’s models typically account for the majority of sales in the third quarter, as new models are only available for a limited time during the quarter. Additionally, consumers in many markets tend to compromise between features and price by purchasing last year’s models.
