HyperSpace now regains storage without deleting files from the largest data bucket
Hyperspace, a new utility from Macintosh veteran John Siracusa, has been updated several times since covering the launch in February. If you haven’t tried HyperSpace since it first launched, there are new features that could reveal more space to play.
First, according to a blog post from Hypercritical, an introduction to how HyperSpace turned out:
Today, most Mac users don’t even realize that when they use the “duplicate” command in the finder to make a copy of a file, they are not actually copying the contents of the file. (…)
I have many Mac apps since I find duplicate files and save disk space. delete Reproduction. Using an APFS clone, my app can regain disk space Don’t delete the files! As a digital pack mouse, this was very appealing to me.
By the end of that week I had written the Barebones Mac app to do the same thing that Perl scripts were doing. Over the next few months, I refined and tested the app and baptized it into hyperspace. We are pleased to announce that HyperSpace is now available on the Mac App Store.
The latest version of the Space Saving Mac app introduces support for replaying storage without removing files from cloud services such as Apple’s iCloud Drive and Microsoft’s OneDrive.
HyperSpace started carefully without touching the more complicated file storage locations. This app can now cast magic on cloud storage including iCloud Drive. Previous versions added support for scan package directories, including Apple’s photos, Imovie libraries, Logic Pro projects, and more.
These features are disabled by default. As a precaution. You can enable each in the app settings from (Advanced Tab).

Make sure you have a redundant backup strategy as ever. You’ll know, especially before performing tasks that do not result in data loss. iCloud itself is not a backup as it deletes files in one location and deletes files in all locations.
HyperSpace can be downloaded freely and run on your Mac. After scanning to reveal the potential for space savings, you can purchase the app and perform the task of reclaiming storage without deleting files.
HyperSpace supports unlimited scanning without paying. The app includes three one-time purchase options and two subscription options.

HyperSpace works with Mac storage and attached storage using Apple File System (APFS). HyperSpace is available on the Mac App Store.
