According to a new report, the M4 MacBook Air returned in March in March, allowing Apple to enjoy faster growth than any other computer manufacturer.

However, there are concerns that this boost could be short-lived, as tariffs could be imposed later in the year…

M4 MacBook Air

The launch of the M4 MacBook Air may not have been a particularly exciting update, but reviewers agreed that this is a Mac that most people should buy.

This is the best time for people to upgrade from their Intel models, offering huge amounts of Macs at a price of $999.

Apple grew 17% in the first quarter

CounterPoint Research’s Market Intelligence Report estimates that overall PC shipments increased 6.7% year-on-year in the first quarter of the year, but Apple rose 17%, far surpassing the pack.

This is more than any other PC brand, and Lenovo is the only PC manufacturer to see double digit growth.

Global PC shipments rose 6.7% to 61.4 million units in the first quarter of 2025, according to preliminary data from CounterPoint Research. Growth was driven primarily by PC vendors that accelerate shipments ahead of the rise in US tariffs and adoption of AI-enabled PCs, amid the end of Windows 10 support (…)

Apple and Lenovo have achieved strong performance, mainly due to new product launches and market dynamics. Apple experienced 17% year-over-year growth in cargo, driven by the AI-enabled M4-based MacBook series. Lenovo’s 11% growth reflects the expansion into AI-enabled PCs and their diverse product portfolio.

Certainly, the impact on Apple’s market share was limited. Shipping for all brands has increased, with a small nudge between 9% and 10% of the market.

This surge may be short-lived as stock levels are likely to stabilize over the coming weeks. The impact of US tariffs is expected to reduce growth momentum in 2025 (…)

Despite the recent US exemption to remove tariffs on laptops, uncertainty remains as the Trump administration plans to impose new obligations on semiconductors and other technological products within the next quarter.

My money remains in the resolution, but I will not deny the fact that it is impossible to predict what the current administration will do next. The latest development is the imposition of new tariffs on 3,521% Southeast Asian solar panels.
