M4 Macs seem to have issues with ultrawide 5K2K monitors
Many users have pointed this out on the Apple Community Forums and Reddit, and even 9to5 mac Dear reader, it looks like M4 Mac is dropping support for some ultrawide monitors. Specifically, one with 5K2K (5120 x 2160) resolution.
According to these reports, M4 Macs do not display the appropriate resolution options on these monitors, causing the interface and text to appear blurry. The same monitors, whether Intel or Apple Silicon, will work fine with older Macs. However, when connected to an M4 Mac, it will no longer work in HiDPI mode. This upscales the interface and makes it more crisp.
Most of the reports on the web seem to come from Mac mini owners, but M4 MacBook Pro users are also reporting similar issues.
“You can choose the same resolution on a Mac Mini M4, but you won’t see HiDPI and it will (actually) look worse,” claims the HiDPI option works when the monitor is connected to an M1 MacBook Pro. the user said. . “Same problem here – MacBook Pro M1 Max: No problem. Some users have been able to enable HiDPI using third-party tools such as BetterDisplay, but this introduces other drawbacks, such as reducing the refresh rate from 75Hz to 60Hz. Apple has not yet acknowledged this bug. At this time, the best workaround for owners of ultrawide 5K2K monitors is to not purchase an M4 Mac until the issue is resolved.
