Apple Watch Series 4 and other products are considered “vintage”

A new year has begun and Apple has quickly updated its list of vintage and obsolete products. Now, the company has added the iconic Apple Watch Series 4 and one of the last Intel Macs it released to its list of vintage products.

Apple Watch Series 4 is already a vintage item

As of today, all variants of the Apple Watch Series 4 are considered “vintage” worldwide (via mcroomers). This includes aluminum and stainless steel versions in 40mm and 44mm sizes. Apple Watch Series 4 was announced in September 2018. This was the first major redesign of the Apple Watch, with a larger display, thinner bezels, and rounded corners.

But the Series 4 is also known for more than just a redesign. Official images of the product were leaked by 9to5Mac a few days before Apple’s event, along with images of the iPhone XS.

For those unfamiliar, Apple considers products to be “vintage” if they’ve been in circulation for more than five years. A product is considered obsolete if it has not been distributed for more than seven years. Vintage products may be repaired if parts are available. Old products are not eligible for repair.

With the release of watchOS 11 this year, Apple officially ended software support for the Apple Watch Series 4, with watchOS 10 being released as the last major update.

In this context, Apple has added the 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro to its list of vintage products. This was the last 15-inch MacBook Pro released by Apple, and was replaced in the same year by the last 16-inch MacBook Pro with an Intel processor. However, unlike the Series 4, the 2019 MacBook Pro can still run the latest version of macOS.

In July 2024, the iPhone X, original AirPods, and original HomePod were also added to the list of vintage products.
